Mother's Day

Sermon by Rev. Samuel Cho

Mothers Day

My mother had 9 children including me but she lost her children at their earlier age except me and one big brother. My mother loved me so much because she worried about losing me again. Her love was unconditional and always accepted my requests whenever she can. When I become adult and tried to compensate her love but she passed away.

At this moment, only I pray for her soul and others who passed way.
Basically all mothers are to sacrifice her selves to their children. That is why we honor our mothers.

Today is mothers day. The second Sunday of May each year is mothers day. I think most countries celebrate their mothers day.

In Nepal, Nepalese celebrate their Mothers day during April. Nepalese language of mothers day is the Matatirtha. Those who lost their mother go to the Thankot and pray for their mother. Those whose mothers live use to give their gifts and best regards.
In the United States, the spirit of mothers day has originated from Europe but there is a story of Mrs. Javis who was an outstanding mother and the Bible teacher in 1908. She took care of the any children like her children. Suddenly she passed away. Her daughter was Anna. Anna wanted to remember her mother. She used to share carnations with each anniversary. Finally 28th president Wilson declared the national holiday on 2nd week of each May.

Traditionally, in the United States, their children prepare some good gifts; flowers with card, candy and others. Mothers use to be invited to restaurant and treated very well in order to showing their thanks to mother.

The brotherhood of our church prepared some gift to each mother and father to show your love and care to their children.

The Bible says that honor your father and mother It is the first commandment with a promise.

The major doctrines of the Ten Commandments are: 1. Love your God with your all efforts. 2.  Love your neighbors as yourself.

Honor your father and mother is the first commandment among love your neighbors as yourself. Why is it so important to love your parent? If you can not love your parent, how can you love the God who is invisible? That is why the Bible asks you love your parent.

If you love your father and mother, The God promises you with long life and blessings. Everything is going well.

  1. In this time, I understood to honor my parent is Gods commandment. It is not my personal choice.
  2. If I honor my parents, the God bless us with long life and make everything go well.
  3. Since now, I will honor my parent.

Ephesians 6:2
"Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise.
Deuteronomy 5:16
"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
